Galko-chan author Kenya Suzuki given 3-year suspended sentence, won’t appeal

Galko-chan author, KenyaSuzuki, was sentenced to one year and 2 months in prison suspended for 3 years for possessing explicit material involving children. The mangaka released a statement on his official Twitter stating that he has no intention of appealing and that the verdict will most likely be final.

Suzuki was arrested in December 2021 and charged with breaking customary laws and possessing child pornography. In the statement, he apologized and said he would try to reintegrate into society as he was given a suspended sentence. Suzuki also apologizes to fans, who were concerned after his initial demise, and to the manga industry as a whole. He declares that he will not commit the same crime again and accepts his responsibility, because the books he bought were not used for artistic purposes.

Kenya Suzuki’s best-known work is Please tell me! Galko-chan manga. Serialization has been suspended and at this time there is no indication when it might continue. In his statement, the author promises to let readers know when he has something to report.

KADOKAWA’S Comic Walker began serializing the manga in 2014. Although Suzuki has also worked on several anthologies, such as Don’t play with me, Miss Nagatoro, Galko-chan is his only job to get an anime adaptation. Workshop feeling. hosted the series, which aired during the winter 2016 season. The anime adaptation had 12 8-minute episodes. A 28-minute OVA focusing on a side story also exists. Crunchyroll streamed the anime.

Seven Seas has licensed the manga in English and describes the plot as follows:
Gyaruko-chan always speaks her mind, which might not be the wisest decision anyway, but it’s never short of fun! Meet the exuberant and incredibly busty high school girl, Gyaruko, as she navigates the ups and downs of adolescence with wit and verve, alongside her best friends – the antisocial loner, Otako, and the unpredictably honest, Ojou.
